Thank you so much for sharing such an important message and highlighting that it is scary to speak up. It's especially hard to when you're the only one and there is no one else in the room who agrees with your opinion. I like that you mentioned how 'no one else was saying anything because I wasn't saying anything'. I think that a key point in speaking up about injustice, if we, ourselves, don't speak on behalf of our people, no one will. We can't wait for other people to realize their wrongdoings, we need to be actively communicating that. It's hard but Alhamdulillah it's easier today than it was years ago. More people have a voice thanks to social media and are able to voice injustices in societies that otherwise get overlooked. Insha'Allah collectively we have the power to make a change and create a better world for Muslims.

Mashallah! Shazia this is so encouraging.❤️

Your story is inspiring, very relatable since most Muslims have faced Islamophobia in one or more of it's numerous forms. Your pace and the calm of your voice made it easy to listen through the whole thing.

I wish you all the best with this new endeavor and may we roar louder and louder for this ummah!🤲

"Silence chips away at your soul, even if it gives you the illusion of safety." Such a powerful, relatable, and timely statement. Congrats on launching this podcast and thank you for sharing your words with us. I also remember the moment when I watched 9/11 live on TV. I was too young then to understand what was happening, but my parents' reaction was enough for me to know it was gonna be a life-changing event.

Whaaaattt how is your 1st ep so good??? You didn't stumble once, it's like u had a script but I'm pretty sure u didn't! Also the audio was crissp.

Also, take THAT madame! Get Rekt. Haha. W English teacher. English is better than French anyway 😌.

Perhaps its that I'm a lot younger than you are, but I'm still learning to find my voice when it comes to standing up for the ummah. I am finding it though. Slowly but surely iA. I should start first with telling that one muslim girl in my class to never buy coffee from Aroma Express Bar again.

There is this paranoia we feel as Muslims when it comes to speaking up, amd it's not entirely unfounded. I think the thing we have to accept is that you cannot have safety and authenticity at the same time. You will face some sort of consequence. Hopefully not but you probably will. It is almost the sunnah, so to speak, to get attacked for speaking the truth.

I want to attend a protest. I walked past one once, on my way back from the Muslim Literary Festival actually. But I also realize the need to be smart. I was wearing a jubba/tjawb and was verrry visibly Muslim, and I wasn't gonna walk into something with cop cars all around. Gotta be savvy and smart, and do right by your parents by staying un-jailed (so u can be there for them) while also taking action to help the umma.

Many more thoughts, but gotta go for Isha now. Many congrats on this episode, and may your roars invite more from others and like wolves we will howl.

Hahahaha I really enjoyed reading your comment. Thank you so much for listening. Omg I had to start over three times while recording but alhamdulilah 4th time was a charm LOL. It felt so weird talking into my phone. I had some points and followed them so that I would remember what I wanted to say. Definitely, finding a way to be safe while speaking up is key and sometimes walking away is the right thing to do as well. Palestine has taught us so much. For the protest, I too was nervous the first time and kind of followed at the tail end of the march. Now that I have been to a few I'm right up front. It takes getting used to and making sure you're with someone to be safe and look out for each other. Alhamdulilah though the crowd is very safe and people there are so large in numbers that it feels like everyone is protecting each other. For sure, its a journey and my 20s were all about figuring out how to contribute my voice to the discussions but my 30s is when I applied it. Always learning and growing alhamdulilah, which is also sunnah 🤲🏻

Alhamdulilah thank you so much. So I use the voice recorder app on my phone and just go somewhere really quiet and speak into it directly into my phone. Then I upload the audio onto here and synched it with spotify so it is also available there 🙂
